ARCHIVED - EasyJet includes San Javier– Southend connection in new 2017 routes
Tickets are now on sale for the route with flights beginning in April 2017
Airline EasyJet has announced 10 new Spanish airport routes for 2017 : Valencia-Toulouse; Valencia- Hamburg; Málaga-Toulouse; Palma de Mallorca-Venice; Granada Jaén-Milan Malpensa, Granada Jaén-Manchester; Bilbao-París Charles de Gaulle; Santiago de Compostela-Milan Malpensa; Menorca-London Stansted and Murcia San Javier- London Southend.
The airline is steadily increasing its Spanish presence, and aims to increase its capacity throughout Spain by 11% during 2017, these new routes and amplification of other routes adding an additional 1.6 million seats to the current capacity.
Barcelona El Prat is the major beneficiary, and will account for 26% of this additional capacity, following the opening of an operations base in Barcelona during February 2016 and the addition of a fourth plane covering Barcelona routes.
In March 2017 the airline is opening an additional seasonal base in Palma de Mallorca, and has highlighted that the 150 jobs created as a result of these two expansion projects have created 150 jobs, all of which are compliant with Spanish employment legislation and are all “local” contracts.
The new Palma de Mallorca base will increase the capacity of the airport by 16%, processing 2.2 million seats as opposed to the 1.9 million currently sold on this route.
The Canary Islands will see an 18% increase in capacity next year as a result of the 11 routes recently launched which aim to maintain flights during the winter season.
