The image of the Murcia coast beat thousands of hopefuls from around the globe
Spanish photographer Ángel Fitor has beaten thousands of hopefuls to win the top spot as the best wildlife photographer of 2021, awarded by the German Society for Nature Photograph (GDT). The winning snap is a stunning photo of several jellyfish floating in the waters of the Mar Menor, which has made headlines recently after thousands of dead fish washed up on its shores.
Each year, judges scour countless professional snapshots before the difficult task of choosing the European Wildlife Photographer of the Year. The award-winning photo is titled ‘Medusa Ballet’ and has been picked from 19,000 pictures submitted by photographers from 36 different countries. A total of 1,000 big names from the industry participated in the contest. The awards ceremony took place on Thursday October 28 and was broadcast live on Facebook and YouTube.
