ARCHIVED - 10 per cent difference between diesel and petrol prices in Spain
Diesel is 14 cents per litre cheaper, the widest difference reported in the last 5 years
When the authorities in Spain consider measures to reduce the amount of air pollution and CO2 emissions due to car exhaust the spotlight almost always falls more on diesel engines than on vehicles powered by petrol, but forecourt prices across the country continue to provide an incentive for people to purchase diesel cars with a price difference of over 14 cents per litre being reported in the latest EU weekly bulletin.
This represents a saving of over 10 per cent for those filling up with diesel, and in general fuel consumption is lower in diesel-powered models than in their petrol counterparts.
The average forecourt prices in Spain as reported by the EU are 1.264 euros for a litre of diesel and 1.408 euros for a litre of Euro-super 95 petrol, and the difference of 14.4 cents is the widest since May 2016. At the start of this year the gap was 11.5 cents, having already widened considerably from the minimum of 3.2 cents which was reported in March 2019.
