ARCHIVED - 15 people rescued in Cartagena flash floods
A Cartagena Local Police car was also left trapped by the water after heavy rain in the Region of Murcia
Almost 100 litres per square metre of rain fell in under two hours in Cartagena on Saturday night, November 20, leaving several people trapped and countless properties affected by flooding.
Two of the most badly affected neighbourhoods were Pozo de Los Palos, Los Dolores and Santa Ana, on the outskirts of Cartagena. Residents in Santa Ana reported that an unseen amount of rainwater began to fall from around 10.30pm and flooded roads, garages, basements and parked cars.

112 services received almost 100 calls between 10pm and 4am, 33 of which were requesting water pumps, 39 were related to people trapped in vehicles and 14 were to alert of road blockages. The rest of the calls were for different reasons.
Several roads were also closed to the public, including Camino del Sifón and Carretera de Molinos Marfagones, due to the rain or other blockages such as fallen trees.
Officers from the Policía Local were called to Pozo de Los Palos, where eight people were trapped in three vehicles, and two minors were also rescued from a car in Los Dolores. When the police first arrived at the Los Dolores incident, they were caught unaware by the depth of the water and the police car was almost submerged, but fortunately both youngsters and the police offices were unharmed.
