ARCHIVED - 2.5 million euros to be invested in Alicante city fire and rescue service
Alicante City Council plans to modernise, renovate and purchase new fire engines and salvage vehicles
Alicante City Council has announced its strategic investment plan for the Prevention, Fire Fighting and Rescue Service (SPEIS) to modernise, renovate and acquire new fire engines, rescue vehicles and equipment with an investment of more than €2.5 million.
"We are investing in the most advanced and latest generation resources to ensure that our firefighters have the best, and can continue carrying out their work on the front line, quickly and effectively extinguishing fires and intervening in rescue emergencies", says councillor for security, Ramón González.
As part of the SPEIS investment plan, €1,4 million will be spent buying two Heavy Urban Pumps, a Light Urban Pump and a heavy Autogrúa (vehicle recovery lorry).
A further €680,000 is earmarked for improving specialised units, with new vehicles for decontamination, the Diving Section, and Rescue Service.
"This is an ambitious seven year plan that will improve response times for our firefighters, and in turn ensure greater public security through specialised units in accidents and mountain and sea rescues", adds the city council.
The rest of the cash will be spent on hydraulic equipment, an air reserve vehicle, three rapid response cars and new uniforms and boots.
Over the last two years, the city council has invested €2.7 million in reinforcing the fleets of the Local Police, Civil Protection and SPEIS, with new vehicles, motorbikes and equipment, along with upgrades at city stations.
