ARCHIVED - 2-million-euro art collection donated to the Museum of Contemporary Art in Alicante
The collection includes 291 paintings, photographs, sculptures and more from 155 international artists
The Museum of Contemporary Art of Alicante (MACA) has received a collection of art, donated by Michael Jenkins and Javier Romero and valued at around 2 million euros. The collection is made up of 291 pieces of art from 155 international artists.
The donation mainly comprises paintings, illustrations and photographs, although some sculptures and collages are also included in the collection.
The collection includes pieces from national contemporary artists, such as Teresa Lacenta, Aurelio Ayela and Olga Diego, as well as international artists, like Leonardo Drew and Kara Drew, from the United States; Janaina Tschepe, from Germany; Amalia Pica, from Britain; and Claes Oldemburg, from Sweden, among others.
The MACA displays mainly contemporary art, which includes artwork produced during the late 20th and early 21st centuries. The contemporary art style is not particularly uniform, but it is characterized by a group conscience and the search for a new expressive language based on a different version of reality.
Other collections in the MACA are the 20th Century art collection, donated by Eusebio Sempere, part of the Fundación Mediterráneo collection, and the Semperes de Sempere, acquired in 1997.
