ARCHIVED - 40-year-old Moroccan stabbed twice in the back in Cartagena
This in the second stabbing in under a week in the municipality and the police are looking into the possibility of racial motivation
A 40-year-old man, of Moroccan origin, was stabbed in the back in Cartagena late on Tuesday night (June 22) and was found by the Policía Local at around 12.30 am on the road between Los Nietos and Llano del Beal.
The victim was with a friend when he was stabbed from behind and he was then rushed to Santa Lucía Hospital with two stab wounds in his back and ribs. The Guardia Civil are currently searching for the aggressor and the motive of the crime has not yet been confirmed.
However, this is the second stabbing in just a week in Cartagena, as a 62-year-old woman stabbed an Ecuadorian woman, aged 41, near the Los Panes y Los Peces food bank last Wednesday (June 16).
The authorities are still trying to determine the motive for both crimes, and the possibility that the incidents were hate crimes against immigrants has not been ruled out.
The president of the Region of Murcia has expressed his concern over these crimes and any other crimes with racist connotations, as another Moroccan man, aged 39, was killed in Mázarron on June 13.
