ARCHIVED - 5 cross-border train lines between Spain and France resumed
The services are on trial until the end of May and tickets cost just 1 euro in Spain
The five cross-border bus routes between France and Spain have been renewed as part of a test phase until the end of May to establish the feasibility of the venture.
The experiment was initially launched in 2020 for a period of two years as part of a European project called ConnECT, which was aimed at “promoting the sustainable mobility of inhabitants of the Catalan cross-border area (ECT).”
With the onset of the pandemic, however, and the travel restrictions that followed, the routes were greatly disrupted and it was impossible to glean a clear picture of the service.

The original project had a budget of 1.58 million euros, 65% of which was funded by the EU.
“Unfortunately, we have not been able to draw any quantitative conclusions from this operation over the past two years greatly disrupted by the pandemic, confinements or business closures,” vice-president in charge of transport, Jean Luc Gibelin, explained. However, all parties are now confident that the five lines will be of great use to local populations, in particular to serve the cross-border access to the hospital of Puigcerdà.
Tickets cost one euro in France and three euros on the Spanish side.
The five lines
- C1: Porté-Puymorens – Puigcerdà – Mont-Louis (intermodality with Perpignan)
- C2: Formiguères - Puigcerdà – Err
- C3: Figueres – Le Boulou (intermodality with Perpignan)
- C4: Figueres – Saint-Laurent-de-Cerdans (intermodality with Arles-sur-Tech and Perpignan)
- C5: Camprodon – Prats-de-Mollo-la-Preste (intermodality with Arles-sur-Tech, Perpignan and Ripoll)
