ARCHIVED - 67 new Covid cases in Murcia and the first fatality in four days; Covid update April 29
The number of active cases dropped on Thursday to 722
The latest coronavirus update published on Thursday (April 29) by the regional government of Murcia continued to suggest that the pandemic situation is relatively stable in the Region, with daily new case numbers and known active cases dropping to 67 and 722 respectively, although the number of people in hospital and in intensive care units both rose by one.
In addition, the Covid-related death of a 76-year-old man, the first since the weekend, brings the official pandemic toll in Murcia to 1,592 since coronavirus reached Spain early last year.
Of the 67 new cases, 23 were reported in the municipality of Murcia, 8 in Cartagena, 7 in Cieza, 5 in Caravaca de la Cruz, 4 in Lorca, 3 each in Alcantarilla and Molina de Segura and 2 each in Mazarrón and Puerto Lumbreras. These diagnoses were made as the result of 2,630 PCR tests, giving a positivity rate of just 2.5 per cent.
It is encouraging that the rise in the number of active cases may be starting to be reverse, but unfortunately 84 patients are receiving hospital treatment for Covid including 18 in intensive care. On the other hand, the proportion of intensive care beds occupied by Covid patients remains the lowest in Spain’s 17 regions at 3.79 per cent.
Meanwhile, the number of people to have received at least one dose of the vaccines is stated at 311,482 (or 20.6 per cent of the population), and those who have received complete vaccine protection number 117,873 (7.8 per cent of the population).
