ARCHIVED - 70 per cent rise in new cases over the weekend: Valencia Covid update October 18
509 new infections recorded in Alicante and the rest of the Valencia region since Friday October 15
New Covid cases have risen by 70% over the weekend with the Ministry of Health reporting 509 infections since Friday, but president, Ximo Puig, insists the region "is not on the verge of a sixth wave" thanks expecially to "the great shield of vaccines".
"At the moment there is no reason to talk of a sixth wave," he said, whilst reminding that "the pandemic cannot be taken for granted" and once again calling for prudence.
In contrast to the downward trend last week, hospital and ICU admissions have also risen.
