ARCHIVED - 85 per cent of inspected bars and restaurants in Murcia are breaking Covid rules
24 of the 28 businesses inspected in the Region of Murcia last weekend were found to be flouting anti-Covid restrictions
Due to the rising number of Covid case in the Region of Murcia, especially in the past week, the regional government has begun implementing measures to slow the spread of the disease, including mass testing and mobile vaccination units.
Another measure enforced is inspections of bars, restaurants and other establishments to check if business owners and customers are abiding by Covid restrictions. These inspections began last weekend and, of the 28 businesses which were inspected, 24 were found to be breaking Covid rules.
In light of the rising cases and the fact that 85% of inspected bars and restaurants were breaking the rules, the Ministry of Health in the Region of Murcia has requested reinforced police controls in addition to more inspections.
A representative from the Ministry also issued a reminder to wear face masks or coverings when it is not possible to maintain social distancing, even in outdoor spaces.
Recent data also indicated that the highest incidence rate in Murcia is currently found amongst under 12s (119 cases per 100,000 children in the past seven days) and most of these cases originate in extracurricular or social activities, such as birthday parties. The second most affected age group are the 20 to 49-year-olds, with an incidence rate of between 91 and 115 cases per 100,000 inhabitants.
