ARCHIVED - A sheepish encounter on Mar Menor beach
A Mar Menor resident captured an unusual sight of a flock of sheep on the beach at Playa Honda
It wasn’t flocks of tourists that were spotted on the beach of Playa Honda at 7:45am on July 23, but rather a flock of sheep being herded along by their shepherd. The bemused photographer captured the footage while lamenting the fact that in a few short hours the beach would be packed with bathers trying to navigate whatever the sheep happened to leave behind.

Traditional routes the shepherds would have used to walk their flock to pasture have been replaced by rows of houses all over Spain, the fate suffered by many of the old grazing paths followed for centuries by livestock farmers.
Campo dwellers in the region are accustomed to seeing huge dustclouds in the distance as a flock of sheep moves from one grazing area to another, but few will ever have seen one on the beach!
