ARCHIVED - A week with no Covid deaths in the Region of Murcia: Covid update June 18
The number of hospital patients with coronavirus has been under 30 for three days in a row in the Region
The latest update in the Murcia Region reports 70 new Covid cases, ten more than in the previous 24 hour period, but no further Covid deaths have been registered for over a week, the total number of fatalities remaining at 1,605 since the pandemic began.
The distribution of the 70 new cases registered on Thursday (June 17) is as follows: 23 in the municipality of Murcia, nine in Cartagena, five in Cieza, five in Molina de Segura, four in Caravaca de la Cruz, four in Lorca, four in San Javier, three in Puerto Lumbreras, three in San Pedro del Pinatar, two in Alcantarilla, two in Fuente Álamo, two in Las Torres de Cotillas and the remainder are spread around different municipalities in smaller quantities.
In addition, the number of patients hospitalized with coronavirus in the Region is 26, a similar figure to the level reported at the end of July last year, when there were 25 Covid patients (July 26) receiving treatment for more serious cases of Coronavirus. This recent decrease in hospital patients means that the figure has been under 30 for three days in a row in Murcia.
Of these 26 patients, ten are currently occupying intensive care units in the Region’s hospitals. There are also 478 people in home isolation with mild symptoms who have tested positive during PCR testing.
The number of active cases in the Region of Murcia is therefore 504, six more than 24 hours ago, and the total number of people affected by coronavirus since the start of the pandemic is 113,952.
In the past 24 hours, 2,114 PCR or antigen tests have been administered in the Region, of which 3.3 per cent resulted positive, which is a slight increase from the day before (Wednesday, June 16).
The Murcia region continues to report one of the lowest levels of Covid cases in Spain. The accumulated incidence rate (rate per 100,000 of population) is 48.1 cases per 100,000 over a 14-day period.
The national average is 96 cases per 100,000, and the lowest rate in Spain is in the neighbouring Valencia region (Alicante, Valencia and Castellón provinces) which is reporting a rate of 39.53.
Slightly higher is the Balearic islands with 40.03 and Galicia with 40.45, followed by Murcia.
The Andalusia region has the highest rate, with 177.39 cases per 100,000, followed by la Rioja with 155.35 and the Basque Country with 126.64.
Within the Murcia region Calasparra currently has the highest rate with 118 per 100,000, followed by Torres de Cotillas with 110, Lorca 84, La Unión 82, Ricote 79, Cieza 70.9, Bullas 69, Villanueva 64, Moratalla 64 and Puerto Lumbreras 63.
Six municipalities have no cases at all.
