ARCHIVED - Active Covid cases remain steady across the region: Alicante Covid update April 13
83 new cases in the Comunidad Valenciana and 43 in the province of Alicante
The Valencian health authorities have administered a total of 1,083,961 doses of coronavirus vaccines to date, of which 127,491 were administered in the province of Castellón, 390,615 in Alicante province and 565,855 in Valencia province. In total, 287,237 people have received two doses.
The region is experiencing the same issues as the remainder of Spain this week, with AstraZeneca only delivering 40 per cent of the contracted quantity of vaccines and Janssen taking the decision to temporarily halt the roll-out of its vaccine in Europe due to safety concerns.
This will principally affect the roll-out in the 70-79 age group(Janssen) and the 60 -69 age group (AstraZeneca).
The official coronavirus update posted by the regional government on April 13 reports 83 new cases in the region of Valencia and 43 in Alicante, showing that the number of daily cases is still similar to the figures reported over the past month, but rising slightly.
Only one coronavirus related death was reported in the province of Alicante on Tuesday and 9 in total across the three provinces of the region, where the average number of daily deaths in the past 7 days is 6.57.
Hospital occupancy has also remained steady and the number of patients with coronavirus in the province is 164, of whom 29 are in intensive care. In contrast, at the peak of the third wave in January hospitals were pushed to their limit with over 1,700 Covid patients in the province of Alicante alone.
Including the figures reported in the most recent official bulletin, there are currently 3,522 active coronavirus cases in the Comunidad Valenciana and the cumulative incidence rate per 100,000 inhabitants across the last 14 days is now 35.61.
This is rising slowly again after having dropped back to 26 cases per 100,000 a fortnight ago, but is still the lowest in the country.
However, the national cumulative incidence rate is increasing steadily (196.2) and the rate is still growing in other parts of Spain; Navarra (425.59), Madrid (341.44) and the Basque Country (330.42).
At the other end of the scale, the Balearics (58.64) and the Region of Murcia (68.95) have the lowest number of cases, after the region of Valencia.
