Alerta Punto Rojo mobile phone citizen alert system introduced in Los Alcázares

The Telegram app enables residents of Los Alcázares to inform the authorities of emergencies in real time 24/7

As of February the Town Hall of Los Alcázares has set up the “Alerta Punto Rojo” Project, by which residents can inform the authoirities in real time about matters requiring urgent attention and also receive notifications from the council.

This “pioneering” initiative works on the Telegram platform and is monitored 24 hours a day, making it possible for immediate replies to be given to points raised. Residents are encouraged to use the service to report robberies, thefts, burglaries, vandalism, illegal occupation of property and other incidents, and when they do so the group administrators will first verify the information given before passing it on to the emergency services.

At the same time, information considered to be of general interest will be broadcast via the platform.

Councillor Eufemio Pacheco explains that this alert system is designed to “strengthen communication between residents and the authorities”, increasing the capacity to respond to situations of risk rapidly and appropriately while encouraging residents to take part in maintaining citizen safety.
