Shoppers can park in the centre of Alhama for up to two hours free during the winter sales
Alhama de Murcia Town Council is rolling out a new initiative aimed at supporting local businesses, offering shoppers up to two hours of free parking in the municipal car park at Plaza de la Constitución.The campaign comes into effect on Wednesday January 14 and will run until February 28, 2026, lining up with the busy winter sales period. It will operate from Monday to Saturday and there is no minimum spend required to qualify for the free parking. The Councillor for Commerce, Antonio García, said the measure “is part of a series of initiatives promoted by the Town Council to encourage local and nearby commerce, especially in a key period such as the January sales.”“With this measure we want to facilitate access to the town centre, both for residents of the outlying districts and for those who travel from the outskirts or from other municipalities, allowing them to do their shopping more comfortably and without the added cost of parking,” he explained. How the campaign works
To use the scheme, drivers simply need to take a ticket when entering the public car park. After making a purchase at any participating business in the town, shoppers will receive a receipt, which acts as proof of purchase. There is no minimum amount required. When leaving the car park, drivers must show both the parking ticket and the shop receipt to the attendant. If the total parking time is under two hours, the stay will be completely free. If it exceeds two hours, only the extra time beyond the first two hours will need to be paid, charged at the normal rate. The offer applies to a wide range of businesses across the municipality. This includes food shops such as fruit and vegetable stores, butchers, fishmongers, bakeries, supermarkets and tobacconists, as well as clothing, footwear and accessory shops. Pharmacies, perfumeries, homeware stores, travel agencies and personal services like hairdressers, beauty salons and photo services are also included. The council is encouraging both residents and visitors to make use of the public car park, support local businesses and take advantage of the scheme, which aims to boost activity in the town centre and ease some of the financial pressure felt after the holiday period. For more local events, news and visiting information contact the tourist office (telephone 968 633512) or go to the home page of Alhama Today.
