ARCHIVED - Alicante orchestra brings music to hospitals and social centres
ADDA Symphony Orchestra has begun its annual tour of hospitals, social centres and elderly residences in Alicante province
Every year, ADDA Symphony Orchestra embarks on a tour of hospitals, elderly residential homes and social centres in Alicante province, bringing music to those who are unable to travel to local concert halls.
On Wednesday November 4, the orchestra kicked off its musical circuit with a performance for patients and staff at Alicante General Hopspital.
The schedule of performances, which involve small groups of trios, quartets and quintets, continues on Thursday November 5 with a mini-concert for elderly residents at Alicante Provincial Home.
On Thursday November 25, the chamber orchestra will raise spirits at San Juan Nursing Home for the Elderly, coinciding with the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, before visiting residences in Elda and Algueña on December 3 and 4, performing pieces by Prokofiev and Beethoven.
Last year, ADDA Simfònica performed at the Paediatrics and Children's Oncology Unit at Alicante General Hospital, Alicante Provincial Home, the Dr. Esquerdo Centre, the University Hospital of Torrevieja, Torrevieja Residence for the Elderly and the Vega Baja, Vinalopó, and San Juan and Alcoi hospitals, amongst others.
Alicante Provinicial Council's vice-president and Councillor for Culture, Julia Parra, thanked the musicians for the "bringing music to different spaces, a worthwhile effort that allows people who would otherwise miss out on certain cultural experiences to enjoy the ADDA Symphony Orchestra".
After a forced break due the pandemic, ADDA's artistic director, Josep Vicent, said he is delighted to be able to resume what he considers to be "the orchestra's most important activity".
"At last we are resuming this calendar of performances specfically designed for people who are in hospital, social centres or centres for the elderly throughout the province, because the healing capacity, and the capacity of music to inspire, is extraordinary in all aspects," he added.
