ARCHIVED - All beaches in Murcia region flying green flags today including Playa Puerto in Mazarron
Aemet maintains a yellow heat alert from 2 p.m. onwards
All of the beaches in the Murcia region are flying green flags today, Friday July 30, including the Playa Puerto in Mazarrón which has now re-opened for bathers following the sewage spillage on Monday during a torrential downpour.
Following testing, the water has been declared clear of any unpleasant substances and is once again fit for bathing.
Everywhere else, it’s green for go, with beaches still fairly empty, although that will change from today as the cities empty for the August holidays.
Aemet, the State Meteorological Agency, is maintaining its yellow heat warning for today, warning of temperatures that may reach 39 and even 40 degrees in the interior of the Region of Murcia.
Coastal areas will continue to enjoy a hazy cloud cover and lower temperatures, but inland temperatures will soar this afternoon and in the early evening.
The warning affects:
The Altiplano (Yecla, Jumilla), Northwest (Caravaca, Calasparra etc), Valle del Guadalentín (all the way across from Puerto Lumbreras to Alhama), Lorca, Águilas and the Vega del Segura (all the way down the Ricote valley to Murcia city) and is valid from 14:00 to 20:59.
