ARCHIVED - Andalusia daily deaths in double digits for third time this week: Covid update August 5
15 Covid-related deaths have been reported across Andalucía provinces of Málaga, Sevilla, Almería, Granada and Córdoba
Andalucía’s latest Covid update reports 4,496 new cases of coronavirus in the past 24 hours; slightly lower than last Thursday’s (July 29) figure of 4,893, but higher than Wednesday’s (August 4), which was 3,655.
Sevilla is the province with the highest number of new cases (1,088), followed by Málaga (873), Cádiz (700), Almería (446), Jaén (381), Granada (379), Córdoba (357) and Huelva (272).
Meanwhile, the cumulative incidence rate per 100,000 inhabitants in the past 14 days has decreased for the second consecutive day, after rising consistently for over a month.
The current figure has decreased by 1.1 points since the previous update and is now 584.9; still above the rate in the neighbouring province of Murcia (469.35), but below the national incidence rate of 633.07 (data reported on August 4).
Although the regional rate has decreased slightly, eight municipalities now have an incidence rate of over 1,000 cases per 100,000 inhabitants and will be enforcing strict curfew and perimetral closure rules from Friday morning (August 6).
Fatalities: Thursday’s update sadly reports 15 further deaths caused by coronavirus; six in Málaga, four in Almería, two in Sevilla, two in Córdoba and one in Granada.
Hospitalisations: the number of patients in Andalucía’s hospital has decreased by nine in the past 24 hours and is now 1,327. However, the number of people in critical condition has increased by 14 and there are now 254 patients in ICU.
Vaccines: 5,935,249 people have had at least one dose of a Covid vaccine; 79.6 per cent of the population aged over 12, while 5,052,354 have had both jabs (or one Janssen jab); 67.7 per cent of the population over 12.
Fifteen-year-olds, born in 2006, have been able to book vaccine appointments in Andalucía since Wednesday, August 4.
