ARCHIVED - Andalusia extends Covid Passport until January 31
The certificate is required to access bars and health centres in Andalucía
The Junta de Andalucía has announced that it will be extending the use of the Covid passport until January 31 after the measure was endorsed by the Superior Court of Justice (TSJA) this week. A cert proving a person is double jabbed, has recently overcome coronavirus or has had a negative PCR within 72 hours or an antigen test within 48 hours will be required of anyone wishing to access hospitality establishments and nightlife venues, hospitals and nursing homes.
Although the cumulative incidence rate in Andalucía is half the national average, the TSJA said in a statement that the spread of the Omicron variant was still enough of a threat to the region to warrant extending the restrictions.
The regional government agrees that, although vaccination levels are very high, there has been a significant increase in the number of infections which began accelerating in October and that, “at district health level, all are at a very high risk level”.
Responding to claims that refusing entry to hospitality venues is an “injury to fundamental rights,” the TSJA believes that the measure is in place to protect another “preeminent” right – the right to life. Furthermore, the court feels it is better to impose some minor restrictions now that affect a few, rather than having to go back to more extreme measures that would affect many more.
Regarding access to care homes, hospitals and health centres, the measure only applies to visitors over the age of 12 and does not affect patients attending the emergency room or waiting for a consultation, or their companions.
