ARCHIVED - Andalusia registers highest number of infections since August: Covid update December 6
Hospitalisations and ICU admissions have increased slightly over the weekend in Andalucía
While the community of Andalucía appears to be doing better than much of Spain at keeping the coronavirus at bay, most of the Covid indicators are still on the rise, and the region registered the highest number of infections on Monday December 6 since August 27.
Covid infections
The regional health authorities reported 1,638 new infections over the weekend, marking the fourth consecutive day where the number of infections exceeded 1,200.
This is also a considerable increase on the 1,233 infections reported on Friday December 3.
By provinces, Malaga has registered 442 new infections, followed by Sevilla with 410, Cádiz with 288, Huelva with 150, Jaén with 131, Almería with 100, Granada with 59 and Córdoba with 58. The three deaths have been registered in Córdoba (two) and Jaén (one).
Since the pandemic began, 829,115 people have been infected.
Cumulative incidence rate
The 14-day incidence rate has jumped 10.6 points in the last 48 hours and now sits at 135.8 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, a large jump from the 99.5 cases registered on the same day last week.
Hospitalisations
Five additional people have been hospitalised with Covid compared with 328 on Saturday, bringing the total number of inpatients to 328. One more person has been admitted to the ICU, hiking the overall figure to 70, 13 more than the same day last week.
Fatalities
Three new deaths have been reported, the same number as on Saturday but two more than Monday last week. The deceased were from Cordoba and Jaen and the figure brings the total number of fatalities since the beginning of the pandemic to 11,421.
Vaccination data
Andalucía has now fully vaccinated 91.8% of those over the age of 12, while 93.4% of people have received their first dose.
