ARCHIVED - Andalusia reports 19 deaths and 2,477 new coronavirus cases: Covid update 16 April
The incidence rate has risen sharply in the Andalusia region, and alert levels have increased in several areas meaning bars and shops will have to return to early closing as of Sunday.
There were 2,477 new Covid-19 cases, and 19 people lost their lives to the virus in Andalusia on Thursday, according to the latest data published on Friday (16 April) by the regional statistics institute.
The 14-day accumulated incidence rate has reached 241.2 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, up 15.9 from Thursday.
The number of new positive cases was significantly higher than the 1,899 reported the previous day, and the number of deaths also increased from the 14 on Thursday’s reports.
On Friday morning the regional health authorities stated that there were 1,486 coronavirus patients in Andalusian hospitals, the same figure as the day before, and 295 of them, two more than on Thursday, were in ICUs.
The number of cases has been increasing steadily during the week, although not as significantly as during the third wave.
