ARCHIVED - Andalusia to enter into talks about new measures with Covid experts this week
Health authorities in the region of Andalucía are keen to introduce the Covid passport
Experts and Andalusian government officials will be meeting on Friday morning to discuss implementing new counter-Covid measures as the region finds itself in the midst of rapidly rising infections. On the table is the suggestion that the Covid certificate, also called a Covid passport, could be obligatory to enter certain enclosed areas, such as nightclubs, sporting establishments and even hospitals.
While half of Europe is moving forward with more restrictions, including a fresh lockdown in Austria, in Spain the national Health Department has ruled out imposing earlier closing times and reduced capacity indoors and has even promised to relax its traffic light system so that a higher incidence rate is needed before new emergency rules are brought in.
The Junta de Andalucía, however, has once again called for a “legislative change that takes a step forward” and allows the Autonomous Communities in Spain to continue taking measures without the need for judicial authorisation.
For now, though, the Junta has insisted that these suggested measures will not include decreasing the number of people allowed inside any establishment and “right now no measures of any kind are being contemplated”.
“Andalucía is at level 0,” reminded the Minister of Health, Jesús Aguirre, while highlighting that the data “are worrying, but not alarming”.
