ARCHIVED - Covera airport passengers still half of pre-pandemic level
Murcia flails while Spanish airports recovered 70% of traffic in November
Since international travel restrictions were eased, Murcia’s Corvera airport has reported a surge in passengers, but traffic is still well below pre-pandemic levels. The airport received 21,592 passengers in November, ten times as many as the same month the previous year, but a disappointing 50% fewer than in 2019.
In Spain in general, Aena-operated airports reported that 13.4 million travellers passed through their doors, 361% more than in 2020 but 26.7% fewer than the previous year.
The number of international travellers reached four million, practically 70% of the levels reached in November 2019, before coronavirus hit.
The low passenger numbers at Murcia Region International Airport won’t be much improved by the strike action planned for December 23 and 26, when around 2,000 Enaire baggage handlers will down tools over a payment dispute dating back to last year.
