ARCHIVED - Murcia attends London tourism fair to attract UK holidaymakers to the region
The Region of Murcia has decided UK tourism is worth it after all and is refocusing efforts on British tourists
The Region of Murcia is present at the World Travel Market (WTM) in London, along with Alicante towns like Benidorm, trying to attract British tourists to the region after a year in which it effectively ignored this lucrative market.
Considered one of the most important professional events for tourism in the world, the WTM is already being attended by Spanish delegations from Alicante and Andlaucía, and now Murcia is investing resources into trying to regain a share of the UK tourist market.
Murcia’s presence there means the delegates will be involved in an intense agenda of meetings with fifty representatives the tourism sector such as airlines, online travel platforms, professional associations and specialised operators. Murcia is focusing on the region’s quality golfing installations, beaches and sunshine to attract British holidaymakers.
One in every four international tourists who visited Murcia in the first eight months of 2021 was British, and the UK was the country that generated the highest tourist expenditure in this period, at 50.2 million euros, so it’s unsurprising that the regional government is now trying to backtrack and get as many British tourists as possible after neglecting the Brit community during the pandemic and because of Brexit concerns.
