ARCHIVED - Arrest warrant issued for deadly plastic surgeon in Murcia
The Murcia doctor’s malpractice resulted in life-threatening injuries
On New Year’s Day, a 39-year-old mother of two died in the Santa Lucía Hospital in Cartagena after spending a month in intensive care as a result of a liposuction procedure which went horribly wrong and caused numerous internal injuries. Her devastated family then began criminal prosecution proceedings against the negligent surgeon, who has both Spanish and Chilean nationalities.
After the doctor failed to attend his hearing, scheduled for 10am on Tuesday January 4, friends and family members of the victim, Sara, feared that he had escaped to Chile and the judge ordered an arrest warrant for the surgeon.
However, the man’s lawyer insists that he is still in the Region of Murcia and has not attempted to flee the country. The lawyer stated that his client was unable to attend the hearing “as a consequence of social pressure and continued abuse”.
Sara’s family representative, her ex-partner and father of her youngest child, has announced that the family has not ruled out extending the prosecution to other personnel who were present during the surgery, which took place in a rented operating room in the Virgen de la Caridad clinic in Cartagena. He went on to mention that another victim of the surgeon had also come forward.
The family has also alleged that there were people with no medical training present in the operating room, including the romantic partner of the surgeon.
