ARCHIVED - Arrested for burning 16 bins in the early hours of the morning in Murcia city
In the early hours of Tuesday morning a 29-year-old-man caused havoc in residential areas of Murcia city
Firecrews and police had a busy spurt of activity which began at 02:28 on Tuesday morning when a 29-year-old man went on a binburning spree, destroying 16 bins and two vehicles.
The events began in c / Santo Domingo, where the SEIS were called to extinguish a fire that affected four containers. Successively similar fires broke out in c / Catedrático Fernando Piñuela, avda. Juan Carlos I, avda. Los Pinos, avda. Juan Pablo II, c / Missionary Luis Fontes Servet and c / Antonio Martínez Guirao.
A total of 16 containers (of organic waste, paper and clothing) and two vehicles were affected by the fires (one parked near burned containers and another that may have been deliberately fired) were damaged or totally burned.
Thanks to the information given by various witnesses, it was possible to obtain both a good physical description of the individual concerned and description of the clothing worn by the arsonist.
Whilst some police officers assisted the firefighters in their work to extinguish the blazes and keep members of the public away from the fires, other policemen searched the area to which, presumably, the culprit had fled.
Finally he was found hidden among some bushes in a garden located on c / Hermanos Serrano Tortajada: the man located fully coincided with the description provided by several witnesses, he had in his possession combustible material such as the that located on the wheel of the burned vehicle in Avda. de Los Pinos, and was recognized by another witness who saw him setting fire to one of the damaged containers.
The 29-year-old male, a Spanish national and with no known address, was arrested.
