ARCHIVED - Arsonist arrested for starting Torre Pacheco fires earlier this month
The suspect, who has a criminal record for arson dating back to 2002, is accused of starting the three fires in Torre Pacheco on November 9
A culprit has been arrested on suspicion of starting three fires which broke out in the town of Torre Pacheco in the early hours of Tuesday November 9.
The Guardia Civil in Murcia arrested the 50-year-old Spanish man on charges of damage by arson and placed at the disposal of the Examining Magistrate's Court of San Javier.
The fires in question happened between around 5am and 7.30am on November 9. The first was in a vehicle parked in the carpark of a company in El Jimenado. The second fire was in a timber warehouse located in the La Hita industrial estate and, moments later, another fire broke out in a vehicle warehouse located in the Industrial Estate of Las Morrastelas. Thankfully, all three fires were quickly put out by firefighters.
Polive were quick to announce that they believed they were on the hunt for a pyromaniac, and almost four weeks later landed on a suspect who had already been known to them for setting several fires almost two decades ago.
The man was arrested in 2002 for setting fire to a lorry and a total of ten establishments, including industrial warehouses, bars and commercial premises.
