ARCHIVED - Border between Spain and Portugal to remain closed for another fortnight
The land borders between Spain and Portugal will stay closed for another two weeks, the Portuguese prime minister António Costa has confirmed, to limit the spread of coronavirus variants.
Although Covid situation has improved in the areas around the border between the two countries, the incidence rates at national levels are on the up in both, making it wise to extend the agreement to restrict cross-border movement as a precaution, the PM told the press.
The border was originally closed due to the higher risk of the Brazilian and South African variants spreading from Portugal to Spain.
