ARCHIVED - Borders in Ceuta and Melilla with Morocco to stay closed for another month
All non-essential crossings between Spain and Morocco have been banned since 13 March 2020.
The Ministry of the Interior has determined that the borders that separate Ceuta and Melilla from Morocco will remain closed until 31 July as a result of the Covid-19 health crisis, according to Tuesday’s Official State Gazette (BOE).
The ministry has extended an order issued on 17 July 2020 to temporarily ban non-essential travel from third countries to the European Union and Schengen zone for public order and health reasons.
The Tarajal border in Ceuta and the Beni Enzar border in Melilla have been closed since 13 March 2020, when the Spanish government declared the state of alarm and ordered the lockdown.
The only citizens that Morocco has allowed to cross the land border since then have been Spanish or EU citizens who were trapped in Morocco by the outbreak of the pandemic.
