ARCHIVED - British councillor for Foreign Residents in Los Alcazares, Joanne Scott, resigns due to Covid side effects
The Los Alcázares councillor feels that her illness has had an impact on her official duties
Councillor Joanne Patricia Scott has resigned from her post at Los Alcázares City Hall due to health problems resulting from a prior coronavirus infection.
“I have recently had Covid and it has left me with consequences that are not compatible with the job of a councillor,” she explained.
“It is not something you can do if you are not fully capable,” added the British woman, who was responsible for the areas of Equality, Markets, Social Policy and International Residents.
Ms Scott hit back at the PP of Los Alcázares, who released a statement claiming she had stepped down because of the “authoritarian attitude” of Mayor Cervera, discounting the statement completely and assuring that she had enjoyed a very good relationship with both the mayor and her colleagues, who all supported her decision to resign for the sake of her health.
“I have felt supported by the mayor and fellow council members, but I don’t feel up to scratch in my duties, although I will continue to help international residents,” said Ms Scott. In addition, she assured that “several personal changes” have influenced her decision, such as the responsibility of her bar-restaurant La Zona in Los Narejos and caring for an elderly relative.
Ms Scott took over the post as Councillor for Foreign Residents just last year when Gema Gárate, who was responsible for the Department of Education, left to pursue another position.
