ARCHIVED - British woman wins ironman competition in Marbella
The demanding contest held in the Costa del Sol involves swimming, cycling and running
UK woman Lucy Byram finished first in her category in the Ironman 70.3 event held in Marbella on Sunday September 19 with a completion time of 4:50:08. She was joined on the podium by her male counterpart from Sweden, Patrick Cometta, with a 4:22:23 finish.
The international event, which had representatives from more than 60 countries, was hailed a “huge success” during the awards ceremony by local councillors.
The gruelling contest sees competitors swimming 1,900 metres before cycling 90 kilometres, a circuit which covered nearby municipalities such as Ojén, Monda, Coín and Cártama. The final stage is a 21 kilometre run on the Paseo Marítimo de Marbella.
