The Cartagena lighthouse’s turn signals were damaged in the storms that battered the Region of Murcia last week
Last week’s storms along the coast in the Region of Murcia have damaged the lighthouse in Cabo de Palos which usually emits intermittent light signals every night to warn boats of the proximity of the rocky shore.Social media users were quick to point out that the lighthouse was emitting a fixed light instead of its usual 7-1-3-1 pattern (seven seconds of darkness, one flash of light, three seconds of darkness, one flash of light). The bad weather reportedly caused an engine failure, specifically in the turn signals and in the electrical installation. This is the reason why the headlight is currently emitting a fixed light, which it will continue to do until the problem is fixed, so that nearby boats can still see where the coast lies. The Cabo de Palos lighthouse is one of the most emblematic features of La Manga del Mar Menor, and, although the structure was built in 1864, the building did not have any electricity until well into the 20th century, during the 60s.Image: Murcia Turística
