Camposol garden waste and furniture collection point closes after fire
Mazarrón Council has informed the Camposol Business Association of the imminent closure of the waste collection point after the fire brigade issued a clean-up notice
Following a fire at the garden waste and old furniture collection point on Sector C of the Camposol urbanisation, the Camposol Business Association were informed at a recent meeting with Carmen Navarro, the Mazarrón Town Hall Councillor for Camposol, that Mazarrón Bomberos fire brigade have issued a clean-up notice on health and safety grounds.
The facility will remain closed until further notice, with instructions that garden waste should be taken to the Ecoparque and the disposal of old furniture and appliances should be arranged through the free collection service offered by Mazarrón Council. Arrangements for this can be made by phone on 0034 968 333 294, or through Linea Verde (Recogida de muebles y enseres).
It was stressed at the meeting that no garden waste or furniture should be thrown into the fenced-off section or left anywhere in the area, and that anyone found doing so will be subject to fines of up to €12,000.
To this end, permission has also been given to position a camera on the streetlight on the roundabout adjacent to the site which will provide 24-hour surveillance.
The collection point has proved troublesome since it opened in July 2025, with the original plan being for the site to be operated by the Council’s waste and cleansing concern, Bahía de Mazarrón Ingeniería Urbana 2007 with manned opening hours. However, problems with staffing and then a question over the concern’s future, which is still to be resolved, resulted in the facility being left open all hours and without management, the consequences being a free for all with no operational control and suspected waste being brought in from outside the urbanisation and possibly outside the municipality.
The Council is hoping to reopen the site when a solution is found, but until then it’s a trip to the Ecoparque with garden waste and for the removal of old furniture and appliances contact 0034 968 333 294 or Linea Verde. In this case, the good news is they collect it from your gate and it’s free!
