The City Council of Cartagena has purchased ten modern and more environmentally efficient buses
With an investment of €3 million, Cartagena has replaced one fifth of its fleet of 48 buses that were more than 12 years old with newer, more efficient models. The new vehicles produce 90 per cent less nitrogen oxide as well as 22 per cent less CO2, the main contributor to the greenhouse effect. The vehicles now comply with Euro 6 regulations. The buses are hybrid vehicles, which makes them ideal for travel in urban areas as the electric propulsion is recharged each time they stop or brake.According to the Mayoress of Cartagena, Noelia Arroyo, providing more comfortable buses will encourage people to use public transport, reducing the number of cars on the road and thus improving the environment.Nine of the buses have a capacity for 83 passengers, as well as wheelchair access while the tenth can carry 96 people. They will operate on Line 1, which runs between Ripoll and San Felix Captains, Line 4, from the Parque Mediterráneo to Canteras, Line 6, from Plaza de Alicante to Molinos Marfagones and Finca Buenos Aires, and Line 7, from Cartagena to the Santa Ana industrial estate.Image: Ayuntamiento de Cartagena
