The work aims to preserve the last remnant of the Casa de Misericordia entrance
Cartagena City Council is restoring the Arco de la Milagrosa, the last remaining piece of the former Casa de Misericordia building. The stone archway, which once served as the main entrance to the complex, now stands alone after the surrounding walls were demolished. The Heritage Service is carrying out the restoration work to address deterioration and ensure the structure remains stable. Heritage Councillor Pablo Braquehais recently visited the site to check on the progress of the project. The restoration involves reinforcing the sandstone pillars on both sides, replacing missing bricks, updating old repairs, cleaning and restoring surfaces and treating the decorative railing. The goal is to preserve the original features of the arch while showing its age and historical significance. This careful and necessary work helps protect the arch’s structure and ensures it will last for the future.Image: Ayuntamiento de Cartagena
