ARCHIVED - Cartagena, San Pedro del Pinatar and six other municipalities: capacity reduced to 50 per cent
Cieza, Jumilla, Calasparra, Cehegín, Totana and Yecla have also been upgraded to ‘high risk’ level
Eight Murcia municipalities are on level 3 alert, ‘high risk’ as the sixth wave of coronavirus takes hold in the Region: Cartagena, Calasparra, Cehegín, Cieza, Jumilla, San Pedro del Pinatar, Totana and Yecla.
At this level the maximum indoor capacity for hotels, restaurants, nightlife and celebrations is limited to 50%.
Yesterday, Mazarrón, Torre Pacheco, Alhama de Murcia, Fuente Álamo and Abarán were all placed in the ‘very high risk’ capacity, meaning indoor capacity for the hospitality industry and nightlife venues is reduced to 30%.
These new Covid restrictions come at a time when the number of new cases in the Region of Murcia is increasing at an alarming rate and the 14-day cumulative incidence rate has reached 215.3 cases per 100,000 inhabitants – a 40% jump in the space of just a week.
There are also fears that the new Omicron variant of the disease could make matters even worse if it is proved to be more contagious, as the first cases of the new strain in Spain have already been detected in Madrid.
The best line of defence against catching and spreading coronavirus is still wearing a face mask when around others, keeping a sensible distance from people you don’t live with and getting vaccinated. Those who have yet to receive their first jab can do so without making an appointment at any one of the Region’s walk-in mobile vaccination points, while over-60s can now book a booster jab to top up their protection.
