A same-day service has finally been implemented as efforts are made to reduce inconvenience for Cartagena residents
The Town Hall of Cartagena has proudly announced this week that it is now possible for residents to obtain an official certificate stating that they are on the “Padrón” (official census or electoral roll of the municipality) with just one visit to the relevant municipal office.
Until now this procedure has taken, according to a Town Hall press release, “various days” (usually a couple of weeks) although the process of receiving a confirmation (or “volante”) has been simple, either at the main Padrón office in Cartagena or at the OMITA local government offices dotted around the municipality. It is 12 years since the system was fully computerized but only now has this frustrating delay in paperwork been eliminated.
From now on the certificate can be requested online with a digital signature, in which case the document will be received within a couple of hours, or in person at the office of “Atención al Ciudadano de Estadística”, the “Registro General” and the OMITAs, in which case it will be delivered the following morning.
As well as advances in the Town Hall’s IT systems, the improvement in the efficiency of this administrative process has been made possible by the simple decision to eliminate the need for documents to be signed by so many different heads of department and councillors.
This change is to be applauded, of course, but it does leave the obvious question of why it has taken so many years to implement!
