Cartagena City Council has spent 600,000 euros on festive lights and decorations this year
The festive season promises to get into full swing in Cartagena next weekend with the much-anticipated turning on of the Christmas lights.Around 600,000 euros has been spent on the festive illuminations and celebrations this year, to "ensure all districts of the municipality are lit up", according to the city council. In addition, the city council is launching its 'Juguetea' campaign "so that no child is left without toys this Christmas".From December 7, the Palacio de Deportes will be a collection point for gifts and will remain open until December 23, from 10am to 1pm, Monday to Friday."It is a time for solidarity, to bring out the best in ourselves, our best version. The people of Cartagena, who are always generous, can help bring the magic of Christmas to every corner of the city," said Councillor for Social Services, Mercedes García.Last year, the campaign collected 3,549 toys which were distributed to 23 entities and groups from 47 institutions, companies and associations. And it's hoped this year's initiative will be even more successful. "Our goal is to exceed last year's figure of giving gifts to 1,237 children, 11.3% more than the previous year," added García.Image: Ayuntamiento de Cartagena
