ARCHIVED - Cases continue to rise in Murcia: Covid update November 29
There are now over 2,500 active cases in the Region of Murcia
As the whole world increases precautionary measures and imposes strict travel restrictions amidst concerns about the Omicron variant of coronavirus, the cases continue to shoot upwards in the Region of Murcia, and in the rest of Spain.
A total of 725 new cases were reported over the weekend (305 on Friday, 308 on Saturday and 112 on Sunday), which is a huge jump from this time last week, on November 22, when just over 504 cases were recorded over the weekend.
Active cases
The number of active cases in the Region has increased from 2,453 cases on Friday to 2,516 in the latest update released this Monday November 29.
Hospitalisations
Despite new Covid cases increasing every day, this has not yet translated into hospital pressure and the number of Covid patients in the Region’s hospitals actually decreased by one over the weekend: the figure now stands at 76 patients, of whom 15 are in intensive care.
Recoveries
Since Friday, 662 people have recovered from Covid-19, bringing the total number since the start of the pandemic up to 142,276.
Fatalities
Another Covid indicator which hasn´t shot up along with the number of daily cases is the number of fatalities, as there have been no reported Covid-related deaths in the Region since Friday, meaning that the total remains at 1,768.
Incidence rate
The 14-day cumulative incidence rate continues to grow at an alarming rate, reaching 215.3 cases per 100,000 inhabitants in the latest update, while the national rate stands at 171.68. And the rate is even higher in some Murcian municipalities such as Alhama de Murcia (333.9), Fuente Álamo (309.8) and Mazarrón (423.3).
Meanwhile, the 7-day rate is also on the rise, at 125.3 cases per 100,000 inhabitants compared to the figure of 110.7 cases on Friday November 26.
Vaccines
The vaccine campaign is advancing slowly in the Region as the government attempts to vaccinate the last 8.03% of the population. So far, 2,286,394 inoculations have been administered in the Region of Murcia and 82.54% of the population has had two doses (91.97% has had at least one dose).
Third booster doses are also being given out in the Region and as of last Friday November 26, over 60s can book their top-up jabs.
