The last 150 years of artistic development on display in the MUBAM, Murcia
This year marks the 150th anniversary of the foundation of the Museo Provincial de Pintura y Escultura, now the Museo de Bellas Artes de Murcia, and as part of the celebrations the cultural heritage board is running a project entitled “Arte en Murcia, del Romanticismo a nuestros días”. This is to consist of five exhibitions overseen by Ignacio Ruiz, all of which will be held in the Museum itself during the year.
The five shows are an attempt to narrate the history of art in Murcia from a different point of view, analyzing classical works alongside recent creations and showing the influence of the old masters on new artists. The first of these exhibitions is open until 2nd March, under the title “Narración: Del Relato Romántico al Documentalismo Contemporáneo”.
The full program for the year in the MUBAM is as follows:
16th January to 2nd March: Narración: Del Relato Romántico al Documentalismo Contemporáneo (Narrative: from the Romantic Tale to Contemporary Documentalism)
6th March to 27th April: Reacción y Ruptura: Vanguardia Frente a Tradicionalismo (Reaction and Schism: the Avant-Garde as opposed to Traditionalism)
8th May to 2nd September: Materia: De la Naturaleza Muerta a la Abstracción (Material: from Still Life to Abstraction)
11th September to 2nd November: ‘Identidad: del retrato al “cuerpo como campo de batalla” (Identity: from the Portrait to the Body as a Battlefield)
6th November to 12th January 2015: Naturaleza: Del Paisaje Novecentista al Arte Público (Nature: From 19th Century Landscapes to Public Art)
The opening hours for all of these exhibitions is as follows:
Tuesday to Friday; 10.00 to 14.00 and 17.00 to 20.00
Saturdays; 11.00 to 14.00 and 17.00 to 20.00
Sundays and public holidays; 11.00 to 14.00
In July and August the museum will be open from Tuesday to Sunday between 10.00 and 14.00, and on 24th and 31st December from 11.00 to 14.00.
