Central Sucina gets a makeover with new cobbled pedestrian spaces
A 560m2 repaving project improves accessibility and prepares for future pedestrianisation of the town

The City Council of Murcia has completed a street improvement project in the centre of the hamlet of Sucina, laying new cobblestones to create a safer, more accessible environment for pedestrians. The upgrade covers 560 square metres and includes the streets of Las Balsas, San Pedro and Escultor Roque López, all located around the Church of Nuestra Señora del Rosario.
This intervention, with a total investment of €52,400, forms part of a broader initiative to revitalise the pedanías of Murcia – the outlying districts that house around 70 percent of the municipality’s population. The councillor for Pedanías y Vertebración Territorial, Marco Antonio Fernández, and the president of the Sucina Municipal Board, David García, visited the site to mark the completion of the works. The project involved the removal of old paving and the installation of new cobblestones to level the surface, resulting in a uniform shared roadway that improves walkability and accessibility. Along with renewed signage, these upgrades allow the more than 2,500 residents of Sucina to enjoy a safer and more pedestrian-friendly centre.
The improvements also pave the way for future pedestrianisation plans in the heart of Sucina, particularly around the commercial area and Arteaga square. The specific enhancements on Balsas street are part of this broader vision to reduce vehicle dominance and increase pedestrian use in key areas of the village. These works respond to long-standing local requests, reinforcing the City Council’s commitment to enhancing the liveability of Murcia’s smaller districts.
