ARCHIVED - Cheap holiday scheme for pensioners in Spain can resume this autumn
The popular Spanish subsidized Imserso holidays had to be cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic but will be back in October.
Pensioners in Spain with itchy feet who have been missing their holidays are in luck, as the government has given Imserso (the Seniors and Social Services Institute) the green light to start planning the 2021/2022 season of its highly popular subsidized holidays.
As the vaccination campaign marches onwards and the pandemic appears to be under control, the authorities have decided it should now be safe to resume the pensioners’ holiday programme which, like so many other things, had to be cancelled last year.
There will, of course, be strict safety measures and protocols in place for transport, accommodation and activities to avoid the spread of Covid-19, the director of Imserso has explained, and trips will always be subject to health authorities’ decisions at all times. Moreover, bookings will be reimbursed if holidays have to be cancelled for health reasons.
The Social Tourism programme for 2021/2022 initially includes 816,029 places on 6,123 million trips, which have been adapted to seniors’ suggestions and requirements. The number of places available on nature, city and cultural trips has been increased, and there will be more, shorter stays of up to ten days available than in the past.
