Residents in Condado de Alhama's Jardines II community have been issued a strong safety warning over the increased risk of wildfires due to the build-up of dry vegetation across surrounding green areas.
The community security committee has warned of a high risk of fire due to the amount of dry grass and shrubs left uncleared across natural areas throughout the development, including the outer and inner ring zones.
According to the notice, the site management body has asked the administration to contact all owners of undeveloped plots and request that they clear weeds, bushes and dry vegetation.
Concerns have also been raised about the condition of areas surrounding the penthouse blocks in Naranjos 1 and Naranjos 2. The dry vegetation is located between the rear terraces and the edge of the golf course, in some places just a few metres from private homes.
Residents have also been warned about the serious fire risk caused by discarded glass bottles or broken glass in these dry areas. The committee pointed out that glass can act like a magnifying lens under strong sunlight, increasing the chance of ignition and allowing fires to spread quickly.
The situation is being closely monitored, but the community has also stressed its limited capacity to respond in an emergency. Until additional summer support staff arrive on July 1, only one patrol officer is currently on duty for a development of more than 3,000 homes.
As temperatures rise and vegetation continues to dry out across the region, the risk of wildfire remains a serious concern for many communities in the Murcia Region. Even small sparks can escalate quickly in hot, dry and windy conditions, particularly in areas with long grass, scrubland or unmanaged plots.
Basic precautions can make a big difference. Avoid discarding cigarette ends or glass in rural or green areas, and never light fires or barbecues outside of designated and authorised zones. Property owners should make sure that gardens and surrounding land are kept clear of dry vegetation where possible, especially during the summer months.
Staying alert, reporting any signs of smoke early, and taking simple preventative steps can help reduce the risk and protect both homes and surrounding natural spaces.
