ARCHIVED - Corpus Christi procession through the streets of Aguilas
The procession through the town of Águilas took place this weekend
A large number of children who have received their first communion this year, participated in the traditional Corpus Christi procession this weekend which began in the parish of Carmen after the celebration of a Eucharist attended by the mayor of Águilas, Mari Carmen Moreno, along with other members of the Town Hall.
The children, dressed in their smart communion outfits, were the real stars of the show, which included a procession through the town and also an important religious representation of the Hospitality of Our Lady of Lourdes. At the same time, there were banners from the various brotherhoods of Easter Semana Santa present, as they generally are at any Catholic procession, and there was musical accompaniment of the band of the Patronato Musical Aguileño Francisco Díaz Romero.
During the procession, which included a stop at the ‘seven altars’ along the way, including one at the Town Hall, there was no shortage of flower petals being strewn and incense accompanying the monstrance, as tradition dictates.
All in all, a great day was had by all the attendees and the onlookers, creating a joyous spectacle that at the same time is an important rite of passage for many children.
