ARCHIVED - Corvera Airport adds two new Norwegian Air flights in June 2022
From this summer, there will be flight connections to Murcia from Oslo and Bergen, Norway

Corvera Airport has announced two new direct routes that will be starting from next June between Murcia and the Norwegian cities of Oslo and Bergen.
On Saturday June 18 2022, the connection will start with Oslo with two flights per week between the capital of Norway and the Murcia region. A day later, on Sunday June 19, the flight route between Murcia and Bergen will begin.
In both cases, Norwegian Airlines has already put tickets on sale.
These additional flight routes are part of a new push by the Region of Murcia to cater for travellers from the Nordic countries – Norway, Sweden, Finland, Iceland and Denmark – who make up a substantial number of holidaymakers and expats in the Region and in neighbouring Alicante province.
Nordic tourism in Murcia
Murcia’s Minister of the Presidency, Tourism and Sports, Marcos Ortuño, has emphasised “the fundamental role that the airport will play in the revival of international tourism”.
“If in the summer of 2021 we achieved a record number of domestic connections, our objective now is to maintain or increase these, and to work to increase routes abroad”, he said at the ‘Matka Workshop Day’ event this morning (January 26).
Mr Ortuño was referring to the 30% increase on passenger traffic through Corvera Airport last year in comparison with 2020, but the truth is the figures are actually 74% down when compared to the pre-pandemic levels of 2019.
Back then, Murcia received a total of 78,987 tourists from Nordic countries, making it the third most important international market for the Region, with a share of 7.5% of all foreign visitors, surpassed only by the British (42%) and the French (15%), according to Frontur statistics from the National Statistics Institute. In 2019, Nordic visitors spent around 79.4 million euros in Murcia, making up 6.9% of the total expenditure of foreign tourists in the Region, and it is this level of economic investment that Murcia intends to bring back to the Region with these new flight routes.
