ARCHIVED - Corvera airport judged to have been amongst the best in the world for its Covid hygiene precautions
The honour is shared with 5 other airports in Spain and just 9 more in all of Europe
Six Spanish airports have been named by the Airports Council International among 33 all over the world which are judged to have provided the best level of hygiene precautions during 2020, a year in which air travel was severely disrupted and reduced by the coronavirus pandemic.
At the same time, Covid-19 also meant a dramatic shift in the perceptions of airport service among passengers, whose opinions are those taken into account by the ACI in making these annual awards, and for this reason the organization introduced a new category of “Best Hygiene Measures by Region” for the 2020 awards. It is in this category that the European airports named include those of Alicante-Elche, Federico García Lorca Granada-Jaén (Granada), Menorca, Pamplona, Seve Ballesteros-Santander and the Region of Murcia International Airport in Corvera.
Also on the list in Europe are the Belgrade Nikola Tesla Airport in Serbia, those of Faro, Madeira, Juan Pablo II and Oporto in Portugal, Helsinki-Vantaa in Finland, Keflavik in Iceland, Skopje in North Macedonia and Tallin in Estonia.
In Africa an award goes to the airport of Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam-Port Louis in Mauritius, while in the Middle East recognition is given to those of King Khalid in Saudi Arabia and Salalah in Oman. In the Asian Pacific the list includes Beijing Daxing (China), Chandigarh, Pune and Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose in India and Depati Amir, Husein Sastranegara and Soekarno-Hatta in Indonesia.
The list is completed by the Daniel Oduber Quirós airport in Costa Rica, Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic, Toronto Pearson and Victoria in Canada and, in the USA, Hartsfield-Jackson (Atlanta), Louis Armstrong (New Orleans), San Antonio and Tampa.
