ARCHIVED - Covid cases increase by largest figure for two weeks: Alicante Covid update April 16
229 new cases in the region of Valencia and 78 in the province of Alicante
The official update published on April 16 by the regional government reports 229 new coronavirus cases in the region of Valencia, and 78 in the province of Alicante, the highest daily figure for the last two week period.
These new figures bring the 7-day average in the region up to 158.14, compared to the figure of 135.71 reported at the beginning of the month (April 1) reflecting a gradual increase in daily figures during the last 10 day period.
The number of people hospitalized in Alicante’s hospitals, however, is still slowly declining and the figure currently stands at 133 Covid patients, 24 of whom are in intensive care.
Friday’s official update also reported 4 Covid-related deaths in the region, of which 1 was in the province of Alicante, where the total number of deaths since the start of the pandemic last March is 2,753.
The cumulative incidence rate per 100,000 residents in the past 14 days in the Comunidad Valenciana has risen to 36.24, meaning that the region is still in the low risk zone, defined by the national government as a cumulative incidence rate of between 25 and 50.
The region of Valencia is the Comunidad Autónoma remains the region with the lowest incidence rate in Spain, followed by the Balearics (59.75) and the Region of Murcia (66.96). The national rate is currently on the rise and now stands at 213.05.
On Monday four large vaccination points are opening in the major cities of the region for mass vaccinations to continue.
