ARCHIVED - Covid surge forces closure of indoor areas of bars and restaurants in Castilla y León
The measure affects Valladolid and Segovia as the regional government responds to increased infection rates
As the upward trend in Covid-19 infection rates becomes more and more apparent in most of Spain, heralding the onset of a possible fourth wave of contagion, the regional government in Castilla y León has announced a tightening of pandemic restrictions in 21 municipalities including the provincial capital cities of Valladolid, Burgos, Palencia, Segovia and Soria.
In all of the municipalities affected the 14-day accumulated incidence rate has risen above the threshold of 150 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, and in consequence customers will be barred from the interior of bars and restaurants as of Wednesday 7th April for at least two weeks.
At the same time, the regional health authorities in Cantabria, also in the north of Spain, are set to announce similar restrictions on Tuesday, and as incidence rates rise in much of the country it is to be expected that other regions will be adopting similar measures in the near future.
