The graphic shows the number of patients diagnosed (top) and hospitalisations (below) since May 2020
Although the number of new cases diagnosed in the Murcia region was higher on Wednesday than has been the case for several days, the most important figure for the regional health authorities relates to the number of patients requiring hospital care with more serious cases and this figure has been falling steadily throughout the last week.
The figures published on Wednesday took the number of hospitalised patienst below the 100 mark for the first time since June, and the data published today (Thursday September 16) which relates to the period up to midnight on Wednesday, brings even better news, with the number of patients hospitalised falling to 83, of which 23 are in intensive care.
There have been two fatalities within the latest 24-hour period, two men, aged 88 and 93 from health areas III (Lorca) and II (Cartagena), taking the total number of Covid fatalities in the region to 1,719.
The number of new cases diagnosed on Wednesday was 116, of which 47 correspond to the municipality of Murcia, 17 to Lorca, 10 to Cartagena, 6 to Las Torres de Cotillas, 5 to Torre Pacheco, 3 to Archena, 3 to Beniel, 3 to Molina de Segura, 3 to San Javier and 3 to San Pedro de Pinatar with the remainder spread around the region in smaller quantities.
It would be surprising if there isn´t an upsurge in the next two weeks given the amount of mingling which is taking place in the various ferias and fiestas underway at the moment, although the vaccination campaign continues to forge ahead, with 1,112,873 residents fully vaccinated from a potential 1,310,137, or 84.9% of those aged over 12 and entitled to a vaccine in the region.
